Recap: Clifton Central Comets vs. La Salette Academy Lions
The Clifton Central Comets were the 51-38 winner over the La Salette Academy Lions when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Clifton Central took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of La Salette Academy on Saturday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Clifton Central has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Clifton Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aidan Podowicz. Despite the final result, he scored nine points along with five assists and three steals. Another player making a difference was Logan Fritz, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
La Salette Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eamon Martin led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Martin has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of John Brauner, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Clifton Central has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-8 record this season. As for La Salette Academy, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clifton Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face Wilmington at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. As for La Salette Academy, La Salette Academy and Danville will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The timing isn't great for Danville: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while La Salette Academy has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
