Basketball Recap: Banneker Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Banneker). They took their match on Friday with ease, bagging a 64-16 victory over the Cardozo Clerks. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 22 points or more this season.

Banneker's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ava Baughns, who posted eight points along with ten steals and six boards. Baughns is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rainelle McNeil, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 13 points and five assists.

Banneker was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Cardozo, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Banneker will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Maret at 5:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. After both having extra time off, Cardozo and Woodson will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
