Aztec has gone a perfect 6-0 against Belen recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Eagles at 9:00 a.m. Aztec is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Aztec heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Thursday. They came up short against Silver, falling 7-1. The Tigers have struggled against the Fighting Colts recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Kamora Henry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Aztec saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madeline Kaiser, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Belen put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Los Alamos. The Eagles blew past the Hilltoppers 16-0. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by ten runs or more this season.
Lorissa Scott was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Belen got a massive performance out of Araceli Franco, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave Franco a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shyla Rocha, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Belen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .594. They are 15-6 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Belen is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Aztec, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-12.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Aztec hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .422. However, it's not like Belen struggles in that department as they've averaged .482. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Aztec was able to grind out a solid win over Belen when the teams last played back in May of 2022, winning 10-5. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
