Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Mt. Vernon put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They managed a 61-57 win over the West Delaware Hawks. The Mustangs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hawks, too.

Mt. Vernon pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for West Delaware, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Mt. Vernon won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Northridge at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Northridge knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Mt. Vernon likes a good challenge. As for West Delaware, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Beckman at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2025. West Delaware is facing Beckman at the right time seeing as Beckman is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
