Basketball Game Preview: Abilene Eagles vs. Permian Panthers

Abilene is 1-7 against Permian since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Abilene Eagles will welcome the Permian Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Abilene sitting on three straight victories and Permian on six.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Abilene challenged Wall on Tuesday. Abilene blew past Wall, posting a 67-35 win. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Hawks are ranked 687th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Permian didn't have too much trouble with Presidio on Saturday as they won 65-49.

Abilene pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Permian, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Abilene came up short against Permian in their previous matchup back in February of 2022, falling 68-56. Can Abilene avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
