Basketball Recap: Cheraw Comes Up Short

Cheraw played a tough match on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 79-44 defeat at the hands of the Andrew Jackson Volunteers. The loss continues a trend for the Braves in their matchups with the Volunteers: they've now lost nine in a row.

Despite the defeat, Cheraw saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Elijah McClain went 6-for-12 on his way to 12 points and eight boards. That's the most rebounds McClain has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of De'Shaun Drake, who had five points and seven boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Andrew Jackson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryce Peterson, who earned 25 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Peterson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Jy'Kevius Johnson was another key player, dropping a double-double with 20 points and 16 boards.

Cheraw's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Andrew Jackson, the victory was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.

Cheraw does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Andrew Jackson has already played their next contest (against Lee Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
