Softball Recap: Gretna Comes Up Short

Gretna fell victim to Nelson County and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Governors. If the Hawks were looking for revenge after losing 9-2 to the Governors when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Alyssa Keesee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Gretna and nudges their season record down to 2-6. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 1-7 Nelson County and 3-4 Altavista. As for Nelson County, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.

Coming up, Gretna will head out to challenge Jefferson Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Nelson County, they will be playing at home against Altavista at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
