Basketball Recap: Tegan Link's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lyons over Beloit

Lyons lost against Beloit back in January of 2015 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Lyons Lions fell 70-58 to the Beloit Trojans. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (57), the Lions still had to take the loss.

Lyons' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tegan Link, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Deacon Showalter, who posted ten points in addition to eight boards and seven assists.

Even though they lost, Lyons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

It was another big night for Eli Johnson, who went 11 of 16 on his way to 26 points and seven rebounds for Beloit. Johnson has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Litton, who put up 11 points and seven boards.

Lyons now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Beloit, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lyons will square off against Minneapolis on Tuesday. Lyons knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Minneapolis likes a good challenge. As for Beloit, they will take on Hoisington at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th.
