Defensive end reportedly now looking at Miami and UCLA, among others.
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) defensive end
Jalen Grimble, who committed to USC as a junior, has opened up his recruitment, according to several published reports.
The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Grimble visited Miami last weekend and will take a trip to UCLA this weekend. The Lincoln (Neb.) Journal Star also reported that Grimble recently had an in-home visit with Nebraska assistant John Papuchis.
Grimble is the top senior prospect in Nevada after leading a Gorman defense that recorded eight shutouts. The Gaels won their second straight Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Class 4A state title with a 40-0 victory over McQueen (Reno) and finished No. 25 in the
final Xcellent 25 Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Grimble recorded 71 tackles with 6.5 sacks and nine tackles for loss, and earned first-team all-state honors. Many project him to eventually move inside to defensive tackle in college.
As a junior at Gorman, Grimble had 59 tackles and eight sacks. He committed to USC in May over offers from Alabama, LSU, Nebraska and UCLA. Grimble's cousin Xavier is a redshirt freshman tight end for the Trojans.
MOOK CHOOSES LUMBERJACKSBryson Mook, a senior defensive end at Bishop Gorman, made a verbal commitment to Northern Arizona.
Mook moved to Las Vegas from Honolulu last summer and missed a large portion of his senior season with a leg injury. But the 6-foot-2, 245-pounder returned in time to help the Gaels win their second straight Class 4A state title and finished the season with 12 tackles.
Mook picked Northern Arizona over Texas-El Paso.
"We thought Flagstaff was the best place to be," Mook told Nevadapreps.com. "It was all about the community. I went there, and it was like back home (in Hawaii)."
Mook is the second Gorman player in the last two recruiting cycles to commit to Northern Arizona, joining rising sophomore defensive tackle Tim Wilkinson.
"It's a good up-and-coming program," Mook told Nevadapreps.com. "I'm looking forward to it."
