Baseball Game Preview: Berks Catholic Saints vs. Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES

The Berks Catholic Saints will face off against the Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Berks Catholic is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Notre Dame-Green Pond 5-3. The victory was nothing new for the Saints as they're now sitting on five straight.

The team relied heavily on Owen Schalk, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March.

Meanwhile, Mount Carmel entered their tilt with Bermudian Springs on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Eagles.

Lukas Carpenter made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

In other pitching news, Noah Shimko looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances.

Carpenter wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Clarke Cartright, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Mount Carmel's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Berks Catholic, their record now sits at 20-7.
