Basketball Recap: McCallie Takes a Loss

McCallie lost against Knoxville Catholic last Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The McCallie Blue Tornado took an 80-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish. While losing is never fun, the Blue Tornado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Fighting Irish are ranked 25th).

Knoxville Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carson Asbaty, who went 7-for-12 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds. Asbaty is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tj Tipton, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards.

McCallie has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season. As for Knoxville Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.

McCallie does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Knoxville Catholic, they have already played their next game, a 91-68 loss against Bradley Central on the 14th.
