Baseball Recap: Carthage Comes Up Short

Carthage had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 8-12 to make it five. They lost 12-6 to the McDonald County Mustangs. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly six runs.

As for McDonald County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

For McDonald County's part, Devyn Epling made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Epling also tossed a walk, which is notable because McDonald County is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-11 otherwise. Epling was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Corbyn Sanderson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Jake O'Brien, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Carthage will host Marshfield at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for McDonald County, they are taking a road trip to take on Cassville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
