Basketball Recap: Lathrop Takes a Loss

Lathrop lost against Mountain City Christian Academy back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Lathrop Malemutes took a blow against the Mountain City Christian Academy Lions, falling 63-25. While losing is never fun, the Malemutes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while the Lions are ranked second).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain City Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Morgan Maldonado, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was Maldonado's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Schaeffer, who went 6-for-11 on her way to 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Lathrop has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Mountain City Christian Academy, their victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2.

Lathrop has already played their next matchup (against Valdez), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Mountain City Christian Academy also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Barrow.
