Basketball Recap: Southwest Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Southwest put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against the Washington County Golden Hawks by a score of 66-53. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 296th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southwest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Dupree, who went 8 of 16 en route to 22 points and seven rebounds. Dupree is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brandon Ashley, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 18 points.

Defeat or not, Washington County got some senior leadership from Brashod Heggs and Jusden Culpepper. Heggs posted 14 points and three steals, while Culpepper had six points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Antavion Poole, who made all 5 shots he took to post 11 points.

Southwest pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Washington County, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Southwest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 84-46 victory against Jefferson County on the 6th. As for Washington County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 53-52 win against Hancock Central on the 6th.
