Volleyball Recap: West Mesa Mustangs vs. Los Lunas Tigers

West Mesa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They lost 3-0 to the Los Lunas Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in October.

West Mesa took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-12, 25-16.

Ava Parra paced West Mesa's offense, picking up five kills. Parra were helped by Isabella Garcia and Jayleen Martinez, who contributed five assists each.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Los Lunas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Makenna Gion, who had eight assists and seven digs. That's the most digs Gion has posted since back in September. Madison Pruitt also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

West Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Los Lunas, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

West Mesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Los Lunas, they will take on Organ Mountain at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.
