Volleyball Recap: Weir Red Riders vs. Madonna Blue Dons
Weir was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Madonna Blue Dons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Dons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in August.
The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-18, 17-25, 25-17.
Ella Kaufman paced Weir's offense, picking up eight kills. Kaufman got some help from Amalia Kirlangitis and her 23 assists. Kaufman also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Illionna Kirlangitis, each putting up two.
Leading Madonna to victory were Breea Birkhimer and Danyka DeCaria. Birkhimer had 14 digs, while DeCaria had five digs and one assist. Birkhimer is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in each of the last three games she's played.
Weir's defeat dropped their record down to 6-16-1. As for Madonna, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9-1 record this season.
Weir has already played their next match (against Wheeling Park), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Madonna, they will challenge Clay-Battelle at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
