Preview: Concordia Mustangs vs. Arlington Eagles
The Concordia Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Arlington Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Concordia is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Concordia struggled with assists on Thursday (Bennington had 16 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Concordia had to suffer through a rough 72-43 loss at the hands of Bennington. While losing is never fun, Concordia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while Bennington is ranked 26th).
Despite their loss, Concordia saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Eliza Schmidt, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Grace Hahn, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Arlington entered their tilt with Tekamah-Herman with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Everything went Arlington's way against Tekamah-Herman on Saturday as Arlington made off with a 57-37 victory. The result was nothing new for Arlington, who have now won three games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Arlington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Macy Wolf, who scored 19 points along with three steals. The matchup was Wolf's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Britt Nielsen, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.
Concordia's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Arlington, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Concordia have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Arlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 30 rebounds per game.
