Baseball Recap: West Liberty-Salem Drops Highest Score of Season Against Fairbanks

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Liberty-Salem). Everything went their way against the Fairbanks Panthers on Tuesday as they made off with a 13-2 victory. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Isaac Sertell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jeremiah Johnson was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Isaiah Reames was another key player, going 1-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Liberty-Salem kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

West Liberty-Salem's record is now 12-5. As for Fairbanks, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

West Liberty-Salem will be playing in front of their home fans against Greeneview at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fairbanks, they will head out on the road to square off against Greenon at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
