Basketball Recap: Hawthorne Makes It 13 in a Row at Home

Hawthorne posted their biggest victory since January 10th on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Chiefland Indians with a sharp 62-38 win. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Indians are ranked 442nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hawthorne's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dacarion Debose, who went 8 for 13 en route to 21 points along with five boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Debose a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Chasion Wilson, who posted eight points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Hawthorne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Hawthorne's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.1 points per game. As for Chiefland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-9.

Hawthorne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chiefland, they and Lafayette will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
