Softball Game Preview: Sylvan Hills Bears vs. Vilonia Eagles

Sylvan Hills hasn't had much luck against Vilonia recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bears will head out to take on the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Sylvan Hills' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Vilonia's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Sylvan Hills will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Beebe on Tuesday. The Bears were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Badgers. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won 12 matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Abbie Mayden - 2026 was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and six RBI. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Rakyia Johnson - 2028 also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Vilonia came tearing into Friday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Blazers 8-6.

The team relied heavily on Lila Toll, who went 4-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Ralyn Kelley was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

Sylvan Hills has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Vilonia, their record now sits at 15-3.

Sylvan Hills took their win against Vilonia when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2 score. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
