Basketball Recap: The Pilgrim Academy Now 3-1 over Last Four Games

The Pilgrim Academy won the last time they faced Somerset Bible Baptist Christian Academy and things went their way on Friday too. The Pilgrim Academy Pioneers came out on top against the Somerset Bible Baptist Christian Academy Warriors by a score of 53-36 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). With that win, the Pioneers brought their scoring average up to 50.1 points per game.

Owen Seavey was nothing short of spectacular: he almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. What's more, he also racked up two steals, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Danny Bongiorno was another key player, putting up 12 points.

The Pilgrim Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Somerset Bible Baptist Christian Academy had strong showings from Carter English, who posted 17 points in addition to five boards and five steals, and Dale Gates, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. English's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

The Pilgrim Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Somerset Bible Baptist Christian Academy, they moved to 5-1 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

The Pilgrim Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 70-53 loss against Atlantic Christian on the 24th. As for Somerset Bible Baptist Christian Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Veritas Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 31st.
