Cowan has gone a perfect 3-0 against Southern Wells recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Blackhawks will face off against the Raiders at 12:00 p.m. Cowan has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wes-Del hit Cowan with a four-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blackhawks lost 14-8 to the Warriors. The defeat continues a trend for the Blackhawks in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost four in a row.
Candice Matson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Norris, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Southern Wells entered their tilt with Lakewood Park Christian on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 13-3 win.
Alexis Pennington was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenzie Paxson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, two triples, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Remi Holmes, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
Southern Wells kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches.
Southern Wells' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-19. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Cowan, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.
Everything went Cowan's way against Southern Wells in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Cowan made off with a 12-0 victory. Do the Blackhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
