Recap: Rustburg Red Devils vs. Liberty Minutemen
The Rustburg Red Devils lost against the Liberty Minutemen back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Rustburg lost to Liberty on the road by a decisive 47-33 margin. Rustburg has not had much luck with Liberty recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the loss, Rustburg still got an impressive performance from Haven Grinstead, who scored 11 points. Lena Rosser was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Liberty was led to victory by Brianna Adams and Shania Brown. Adams almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine assists, while Brown dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 rebounds. Brown is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Annabelle Whorley, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Rustburg dropped their record down to 11-10 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.4 points per game. As for Liberty, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rustburg will take on Glass at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Liberty, they will be playing at home against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Liberty is facing Heritage at the right time seeing as Heritage is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
