Basketball Preview: Bellaire Eagles vs. Pellston Hornets
Bellaire and the Hornets are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Bellaire Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Pellston Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bellaire has five straight wins, the Hornets have 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Central Lake scored an imposing 56 points on Friday, Bellaire still came out on top. Bellaire took down the Trojans 71-56. Given Bellaire's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Trojans are ranked 584th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 83-49, which was the final score in Pellston's tilt against the Bulldogs on Friday. Pellston was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-19.
Bellaire's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Pellston, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.
Everything came up roses for Bellaire against the Hornets when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 86-43 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bellaire since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
