Softball Recap: Wheeler Has No Trouble Against Whiting

Wheeler came out on top against Whiting on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Bearcats put the hurt on the Oilers with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by ten runs or more this season.

Grace Gabriel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Olivia Hessling was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Another player making a difference was Faith Kromray, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Wheeler has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Whiting, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.

Wheeler didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-7 victory against Portage on the 26th. As for Whiting, they will venture away from home to take on Hammond Bishop Noll at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Oilers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season.
