Basketball Game Preview: Thornton Wildcats vs. Thornton Fractional South Red Wolves

The Thornton Wildcats and the Thornton Fractional South Red Wolves will face off at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Thornton's tournament run continued when they took on Westinghouse on Friday. Thornton strolled past Westinghouse with points to spare, taking the game 55-36.

Thornton's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Deandre Higgs, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards, and Jeremy Blanco-Rios, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds. Blanco-Rios is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Da'Shaun Fourte, who posted eight points.

Meanwhile, Thornton Fractional South blew past Corliss, posting a 76-38 victory.

Thornton Fractional South has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Thornton, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.

Thornton was able to grind out a solid victory over Thornton Fractional South when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 53-45. Does Thornton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Thornton Fractional South turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
