Baseball Recap: Reynolds Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mercer

Reynolds extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Monday, dropping them down to 0-5. They fell 12-8 to the Mercer Mustangs. On the bright side, the eight- run performance marked the Raiders' highest-scoring game to date.

Tanner Irvine was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Brady Nehlen was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

As for Mercer, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.

On Mercer's side, Lincoln Saracco was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Saracco has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Justin Amos, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Puskar, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Reynolds is taking a road trip to challenge Cranberry Area at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mercer, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Middlesex at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Big Reds have averaged an impressive 13.5 runs per game this season.
