While Lakeland's win against Fremont wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lakers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Eagles on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lakers have posted against the Eagles since May 10, 2018.

Carson Mickem spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lakeland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Riehl, who went 2-for-3 with one run. That's the most hits Riehl has posted since back in April.

Lakeland has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Fremont, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7.

Looking ahead, Lakeland will be playing in front of their home fans against East Noble at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Knights will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Lakers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fremont, they will face off against Lakewood Park Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
