League recap: University Christian bests Eagle's View in blowout

2A District 2 recap October 29, 2013

University Christian took down Eagle's View 62-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Billy Cobb threw for 137 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 32 yards during the win.

The Christians led 2A District 2 in scoring this week after putting up 62 points on the Warriors. Cobb ran for 32 yards in the win.

Charlie Martin threw for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 5-10 with 0 interceptions.

Terence Sapp was a passing and rushing force as Cedar Creek Christian fell to Harvest Community. He completed 9 passes for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 79 yards. Sapp's favorite target this week was Jay Irvine, who caught 3 passes for 124 yards.

Jacob Smith made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Warriors defeated the Saints. He grabbed 2 sacks.

Bret Niemeyer was the best running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 140 yards as Harvest Community fell to Harvest Community. Teammate Lonnie Marts III added to the ground attack by rushing for 96 yards.

5-foot-11 quarterback Chris Brown of Duval Charter is the league leader in passing yards this season with 818. He has also thrown 10 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Irvine. The Cedar Creek Christian star has 20 catches for 495 yards.

Next week's game between the Panthers and Lonnie Marts' team will feature a good passing match up as Brown will test his arm against Gavin Marts's defensive ability.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Jamie Gamel's team takes on University Christian. At the moment, the Saints are in third, while David Penland's team is in second.

The Warriors made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,258 from 10,348. The advance stemmed from a 47-30 victory over Cedar Creek Christian last week.
