Football Recap: Grant Takes a Loss

Grant extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. The matchup between the Lancers and the Poly Parrots didn't end well, with the Lancers falling 42-24. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Parrots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Grant still got an impressive performance from Caleb Whaley, who rushed for 87 yards and two TDs, and also picked up 87 receiving yards and one score.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 1.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Cristofer Cortes-Garcia for the heroic effort on defense: he. Grant's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 3.8.

As for Poly, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-5 Grant and 0-4 Fulton.

George Flores was his usual excellent self, throwing for 365 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 15.2 yards per attempt, and also punching in one TD on the ground. Alejandro Ojeda was Flores' top target, picking up 113 receiving yards and one score.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Grant will square off against rival Fulton at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Poly is set to face off against their familiar foe Chavez at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
