Recap: Mackay Miners vs. Watersprings
If the Mackay Miners were riding high off their 58-34 takedown of the American Heritage Patriots last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mackay was the victim of a rough 75-53 loss at the hands of Watersprings on Tuesday. Mackay has struggled against Watersprings recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Mackay's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaizer Summers, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Summers is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least ten every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruger Nicholls, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Mackay now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Watersprings, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.
Mackay won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Alturas Prep at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. Alturas Prep is coming into the match with three straight defeats on the road, meaning Mackay will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. Watersprings does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
