Basketball Recap: University Prep Piles Up the Points Against Oroville

It was a proper cat-fight when University Prep took on Oroville on Friday. The University Prep Panthers simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Oroville Tigers 90-51. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Tigers are ranked 981st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tayne Allman went supernova for University Prep, going 8 for 13 on his way to 22 points. The dominant performance gave Allman a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Gire, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.

University Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Oroville saw an underclassman step up: freshman Rashawn Bland went 5 of 11 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds. Bland's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jantzen Demitrial, who posted 11 points.

University Prep's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Oroville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
