Soccer Game Preview: Hayfield vs. South County

The Hayfield Hawks will square off against the South County Stallions at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hayfield is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last nine games.

Hayfield is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Woodson a 1-0 shutout. That's two games straight that Hayfield have won by just one goal.

Meanwhile, South County had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2 goals) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They came out on top against Wolves by a score of 2-0. The final result isn't all the surprising considering South County's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Justice are ranked 261st).

Hayfield's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 13 goals over those five contests. As for South County, their win bumped their record up to 14-2-1.

Hayfield skirted past South County 2-1 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Stallions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
