Basketball Recap: Carlyle's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Carlyle waltzed into their matchup on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Okawville Rockets by a score of 51-40. Given the Indians/Lady Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Rockets are ranked 109th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Carlyle's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lera Schmeink led the charge by going 7 of 11 en route to 15 points and five rebounds. Schmeink's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Sophia Hoffmann was another key player, going 6 for 8 to rack up 14 points.

Okawville's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jenna Hackstadt, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 12 points. What's more, Hackstadt also posted a 83% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brynn Rhodes, who posted 12 points.

Carlyle's record now sits at 22-5. As for Okawville, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 15-8.

Carlyle has already played their next game, a 51-36 victory against Wesclin on the 6th. As for Okawville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-29 defeat against Mater Dei on the 5th.
