Softball Game Preview: Tri-County Penguins vs. Pittsville Panthers

The Tri-County Penguins will square off against the Pittsville Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Tri-County has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tri-County lost 17-4 to Nekoosa on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Pittsville had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Rosholt with a sharp 12-3 win on Thursday. The Panthers' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

Brooke Grossman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Halle Friday was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Lana Vollert was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Pittsville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rosholt only posted a batting average of .231.

Pittsville's victory bumped their record up to 4-11. As for Tri-County, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Tri-County might still be hurting after the 12-3 loss they got from Pittsville when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Penguins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
