Baseball Recap: Briggsdale Takes a Loss

Briggsdale had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-5-1 to make it five. They lost 14-2 to the Peetz Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 on Thursday.

Briggsdale saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Scot Francis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Peetz, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10. Considering they have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Peetz's side, Conner Schumacher was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Schumacher has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. He is becoming a predictor of Peetz's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 1-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Dylan Wagner and Rhyder Bayne did most of the damage at the plate: Wagner went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Bayne went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave Bayne a new career-high. Parker Reker was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Briggsdale will challenge Rocky Mountain Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Peetz, they will face off against Sedgwick County at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
