The Purnell Swett Rams will head out to face off against the Jack Britt Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Purnell Swett's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Douglas Byrd 16-0. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Braci Woods made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, Purnell Swett got a massive performance out of Terra Bullard, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Chloe Chavis, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Jack Britt hadn't done well against Richmond recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Buccaneers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buccaneers have posted since February 26th.
Ashanthy Marcano was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Casagrande, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.
Jack Britt has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Purnell Swett, their record now sits at 6-8.
Purnell Swett couldn't quite finish off Jack Britt in their previous matchup back in March and fell 11-9. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
