Basketball Recap: Dejuan Lucas Key Part of Team Effort in Tornadoes Win

Hammond posted their biggest victory since December 18, 2024 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Jefferson RISE Charter as the Hammond Tornadoes made off with an 80-54 win. The victory continues a trend for the Tornadoes in their matchups with Jefferson RISE Charter: they've now won three in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hammond to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dejuan Lucas, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Lucas also posted a 64% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Joseph Carbo was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 15 points.

When it comes to explaining why Jefferson RISE Charter lost, don't look at Aaron Richardson. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-18 on his way to 20 points and six assists. Richardson's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Wilkins, who went 5-for-10 en route to 9 points and six boards.

Hammond's win bumped their record up to 19-9. As for Jefferson RISE Charter, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-19.

Hammond does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jefferson RISE Charter, they have already played their next game, a 60-55 victory against West St. John on the 19th.
