Baseball Game Preview: Marinette Marines vs. Freedom Irish

Marinette hasn't had much luck against Freedom recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Marines will head out to challenge the Irish at 4:30 p.m. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Marinette and Fox Valley Lutheran had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Marines fell just short of the Foxes by a score of 6-4 on Saturday. Marines fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Foxes since on Saturday.

Chase MacGregor made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Justin Kruse also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Denmark hit Freedom with a four-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Irish fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Irish have suffered since April 5th.

This is the second loss in a row for Freedom and nudges their season record down to 8-12. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Marinette, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.

Marinette might still be hurting after the 11-2 loss they got from Freedom in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Marines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
