Volleyball Recap: Goldwater Finds Home Court Redemption Against Thunderbird

There's no place like home for Goldwater, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Thunderbird Titans on Tuesday. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Titans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2022.

If you add up the scores from across all four sets (94-92) Goldwater actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 13-25, 29-27, 25-20.

Joseph Sotelo Valdez paced Goldwater's offense, picking up 18 kills. Sotelo Valdez got some help from Brandan Tran and his 44 assists. Tran also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with David Martinez, racking up three apiece.

Despite the loss, Thunderbird still got an impressive performance from Ethan Schlesinger, who had nine digs and two aces. Xavier Gere also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.

Goldwater has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Thunderbird, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.

Goldwater wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Combs on the 10th. As for Thunderbird, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Deer Valley on the 10th.
