The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks are taking a road trip to take on the Oxbridge Academy ThunderWolves at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Archbishop McCarthy's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Somerset Academy with a sharp 10-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Mavericks sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Sienna Garcia was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Alexis Nightingale was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Sophia Jimenez also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Meanwhile, Oxbridge Academy had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Tigers. The ThunderWolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by nine runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Riley Lyons, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Bianco, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Oxbridge Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive games.
Oxbridge Academy pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Archbishop McCarthy, their record is now 10-5.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Archbishop McCarthy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Oxbridge Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Archbishop McCarthy beat Oxbridge Academy 5-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
