Basketball Game Preview: Canton Eagles vs. Kemp Yellowjackets

The Canton Eagles will take on the Kemp Yellowjackets at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Canton has eight straight wins, Kemp has 14 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Tuesday, Canton earned a 41-28 victory over Lindale. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Lindale is ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Kemp played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 50-22 loss at the hands of Brownsboro. The Yellowjackets were down 42-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Makayla Miller was Kemp's leading scorer, having posted five points. Miller also led the team in rebounds with eight.

Canton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 25-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points per game. As for Kemp, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-20.

Everything came up roses for Canton against Kemp when the teams last played on January 7th, as the team secured a 77-22 win. In that game, Canton amassed a halftime lead of 36-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
