Softball Game Preview: Somerset Academy Panthers vs. American Patriots

The Somerset Academy Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the American Patriots at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

Somerset Academy's tournament run continued when they took on Westminster Christian on Saturday. The two teams finished up on equal footing with a 6-6 tie.

Meanwhile, American was able to grind out a solid win over Braddock on Saturday, taking the game 9-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Mia Harrison was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Chayla Wright was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-3. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathalie Armas, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

American kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.

With that draw, Somerset Academy's record moves to 4-4-1. As for American, their record now sits at 8-4.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Somerset Academy hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like American struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
