Baseball Recap: Evart Drops Season-High Score on Houghton Lake

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Evart). They put the hurt on the Houghton Lake Bobcats with a sharp 16-4 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won six in a row.

Evart let Aidan Anderson and Aaron VanAssche run wild. Anderson went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while VanAssche went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave VanAssche a new career-high. Brendan Magnusson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Evart kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.

Evart's win bumped their record up to 7-4-1. As for Houghton Lake, they dropped their record down to 4-11 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Evart will venture away from home to take on Holton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Houghton Lake, they will welcome Beal City at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
