Basketball Recap: Portola Snags 12th Victory in Last 13 Games

Portola had won six straight home games and Connor Sheridan did his part to make it seven on Friday. The Portola Tigers snuck past the Modoc Braves with a 73-67 win thanks to Sheridan, who almost dropped a triple-double with 23 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. The match was his 20th in a row with at least 17 points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Magnus Berg, who posted 20 points and five boards. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in each of the last five games he's played.

Despite the defeat, Modoc saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Colin Jeffers almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. Jeffers also set a new season-high mark in shooting accuracy with 47%. Chris Guasp was another key player, putting up 17 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Portola is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. Modoc's loss dropped their record down to 15-14.

Coming up, Portola will challenge Durham at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Durham will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something Portola surely won't give up without a fight. Modoc does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
