Soccer Game Preview: La Serna vs. Bishop Amat

The La Serna Lancers will venture away from home to challenge the Bishop Amat Lancers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. La Serna's last three matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

La Serna is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against El Rancho on Thursday. La Serna fell just short of El Rancho by a score of 1-0. That's two games in a row now that the Lancers have lost by just one goal.

Meanwhile, Bishop Amat entered their tilt with Salesian on Friday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Mustangs 2-1. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Lancers were the better team in the second half.

Alger Calderon and Eduardo Jr Moreno scored both of Bishop Amat's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 13 goals.

Bishop Amat has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 43 goals over those 14 matchups. As for La Serna, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-13-3.

La Serna came up short against Bishop Amat when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 4-2. Can La Serna avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
