Basketball Game Preview: Whitefield Academy Lions vs. Cornerstone Family Saints

Whitefield Academy hasn't had much luck against Cornerstone Family recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Whitefield Academy Lions will face off against the Cornerstone Family Saints at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Whitefield Academy comes in on four and Cornerstone Family on three.

Whitefield Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They really took it to Blue Ridge Christian for the full four quarters, racking up a 53-16 win. While the Lions didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Whitefield Academy's win back in December of 2024 was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ann Metcalf, who went 8 for 15 on her way to 16 points. The dominant performance gave Metcalf a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Jones, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 13 points.

Meanwhile, everything went Cornerstone Family's way against St. Joseph D on Friday as Cornerstone Family made off with a 43-20 victory. The Saints have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 20 points or more this season.

Cornerstone Family is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.0 points per game. As for Whitefield Academy, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Whitefield Academy was dealt a bruising 58-19 defeat at the hands of Cornerstone Family in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Whitefield Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
