Basketball Recap: Cardinal Newman Takes a Loss

Cardinal Newman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 47-28 bruising from the Ben Lippen Falcons. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Cardinal Newman lost, don't look at Ayana Reyes. Despite the final result, she posted nine points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Cardinal Newman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Cardinal Newman's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Ben Lippen, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-4.

Cardinal Newman will host First Baptist School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ben Lippen, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 36-26 loss against Augusta Christian on the 9th.
