Football Recap: South Brunswick Cougars vs. North Brunswick Scorpions
South Brunswick had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-2 to make it seven. They took a hard 39-21 fall against the North Brunswick Scorpions. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Scorpions from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.
When it comes to explaining why South Brunswick lost, don't look at Amerius Revels. Despite the final result, he rushed for 204 yards and one score while picking up 8.5 yards per carry.
As for North Brunswick, the victory got them back to even at 1-1. Given their advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 110th, while South Brunswick is ranked 257th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
North Brunswick's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jonah Campbell, who threw for 260 yards and three TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also rushed for 39 yards and one touchdown. That's the most passing touchdowns Campbell has posted since back in August of 2024. Ty Whiters was Campbell's top target, picking up 35 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 73 yards and one TD.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Brunswick will challenge Heide Trask at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for North Brunswick, they will head out to square off against West Carteret at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
