Baseball Recap: Port Clinton's Losing Streak Snapped at 11 Games

Port Clinton had lost 11 games straight , but after bumping their record up to 2-14 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Northwood Rangers as they made off with a 9-2 victory. The Redskins' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Derek Abernathy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Port Clinton let Danny Baker and Beckett Mizener run wild. Baker got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs, while Mizener went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Mizener a new career-high. Kyle Abernathy was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Port Clinton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.

As for Northwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

On Northwood's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brett Reichow, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Reichow is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Port Clinton will host Edison at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Redskins surely won't give up without a fight. As for Northwood, they will be playing at home against Margaretta at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
